emus books
We are an experimental publishing company. Our goal is to make scholarly publishing more democratic and efficient.
To democratize publishing, we do not use the standard pre-publication peer review system because it facilitates gatekeeping by the academic establishment. Instead, our authors are asked to seek feedback themselves. Their methods should also be transparent, and their sources should be made available upon publication. Post-publication peer review is then used to correct any errors, leading to revised editions or, potentially, retraction.Greater efficiency, meanwhile, is achieved through the use of technological innovations that can be used to reduce costs. The economies of scale of Internet retailing and the low overheads of print-on-demand are particularly important to our model. They allow us to both make scholarly books remunerative for authors and cheap for readers—the opposite of the status quo.
“In that moment poetry will be made by everyone,
and there will be emus in the Zone.”
Chris Marker
